National Sorry Day, or the National Day of Healing, is an annual event that has been held in Australia on 26 May since 1998, to remember and commemorate the mistreatment of the country’s Indigenous peoples, as part of an ongoing process of reconciliation between the Indigenous peoples and the settler population.
The first Sorry Day was held in 1998 on the anniversary of the Bringing Them Home report being tabled in parliament and its it‘s call to action to implement the 54 recommendations from the report.
We hope the healing may continue and that we continue to find ways to carry on building the bridge of reconciliation together.
